Sergji dhe Bacchus jetuan gjat\u00eb sundimit t\u00eb perandorit Maximian dhe vinin nga familje fisnike n\u00eb Rom\u00eb. Perandori i vler\u00ebsonte shum\u00eb p\u00ebr maturin\u00eb, guximin dhe sh\u00ebrbimin besnik. Kur u kthye n\u00eb pallate, perandori i thirri p\u00ebrs\u00ebri pran\u00eb vetes dhe u p\u00ebrpoq me fjal\u00eb t\u00eb \u00ebmbla t&#x27;i bindte, duke u premtuar nderime m\u00eb t\u00eb m\u00ebdha. Rojet i \u00e7uan me zinxhir\u00eb n\u00eb Varvalissos n\u00eb Eufrat, nj\u00eb k\u00ebshtjell\u00eb rreth nj\u00ebqind kilometra larg Alepos. Rrug\u00ebs iu shfaq nj\u00eb engj\u00ebll i Zotit dhe i forcoi p\u00ebr at\u00eb q\u00eb i priste. Trupi i martirit u hodh jasht\u00eb qytetit p\u00ebr t&#x27;u b\u00ebr\u00eb ushqim p\u00ebr kafsh\u00ebt, por t\u00eb krishter\u00ebt e fshehur n\u00eb shpella e mor\u00ebn at\u00eb nat\u00ebn dhe e varros\u00ebn me nderim. Sergji, n\u00eb burg, vajtoi shokun e tij, derisa Bacchus iu shfaq atij n\u00eb drit\u00ebn qiellore. Ai e mb\u00ebshteti duke th\u00ebn\u00eb se pran\u00eb Krishtit i pret nj\u00eb shp\u00ebrblim i madh. Antiokusi, duke l\u00ebvizur drejt Sur\u00ebs dhe m\u00eb pas drejt Kat\u00ebr Kullave, e detyroi shenjtorin t\u00eb vraponte p\u00ebrpara karroc\u00ebs s\u00eb tij. I vun\u00eb k\u00ebpuc\u00eb hekuri me gozhda t\u00eb mprehta n\u00eb shputa, t\u00eb cilat i shponin k\u00ebmb\u00ebt n\u00eb \u00e7do hap. Distanca ishte m\u00eb shum\u00eb se pes\u00ebmb\u00ebdhjet\u00eb kilometra, por d\u00ebshmori ndjeu g\u00ebzim duke marr\u00eb pjes\u00eb n\u00eb pasionet e Zotit t\u00eb tij. Rrug\u00ebs ai k\u00ebndonte psalme dhe nat\u00ebn n\u00eb burg nj\u00eb engj\u00ebll ia sh\u00ebroi t\u00eb gjitha plag\u00ebt. T\u00eb nes\u00ebrmen iu paraqit sundimtarit krejt\u00ebsisht i sh\u00ebndetsh\u00ebm, sikur t\u00eb mos kishte p\u00ebsuar asgj\u00eb. K\u00ebshtu t\u00eb gjith\u00eb e kuptuan se Sh\u00ebn Sergji nuk donte t\u00eb largohej nga vendi ku kishte derdhur gjakun e tij. Nj\u00eb tempull i mrekulluesh\u00ebm u nd\u00ebrtua m\u00eb von\u00eb mbi varrin e tij dhe pes\u00ebmb\u00ebdhjet\u00eb peshkop\u00eb i \u00e7uan mbetjet e tij aromatike me nder t\u00eb madh. Qyteti u em\u00ebrua Sergiopolis dhe u b\u00eb nj\u00eb nga pelegrinazhet m\u00eb t\u00eb nderuara n\u00eb t\u00eb gjith\u00eb Lindjen.
