Sh\u00ebn Athanasi i Brestit u varros i gjall\u00eb, i varrosur n\u00ebn dhe dhe r\u00ebr\u00eb, sepse nuk pranoi t\u00eb hesht\u00eb kund\u00ebr Unis\u00eb. Ai lindi rreth nj\u00ebmij\u00eb e pes\u00ebqind e n\u00ebnt\u00ebdhjet\u00eb e shtat\u00eb pas Krishtit, n\u00eb nj\u00eb familje bjelloruse besnike ndaj Ortodoksis\u00eb. Shum\u00eb t\u00eb pasur u konvertuan n\u00eb katolicizmin romak p\u00ebr t\u00eb fituar privilegje, nd\u00ebrsa t\u00eb varf\u00ebrit ik\u00ebn n\u00eb rajone t\u00eb egra. N\u00eb k\u00ebt\u00eb klim\u00eb t\u00eb ashp\u00ebr, Athanasi i vog\u00ebl u rrit, duke marr\u00eb arsim t\u00eb lart\u00eb dhe duke m\u00ebsuar rusisht, polonisht, greqisht dhe latinisht. P\u00ebr nj\u00eb koh\u00eb ai punoi si m\u00ebsues n\u00eb sht\u00ebpit\u00eb e tregtar\u00ebve polak\u00eb, duke njohur nga af\u00ebr mentalitetin e t\u00eb fuqishm\u00ebve t\u00eb koh\u00ebs s\u00eb tij. Por shpirti i tij d\u00ebshironte jet\u00ebn e vetmuar dhe mbrojtjen e besimit t\u00eb t\u00eb atit, dhe k\u00ebshtu ai u p\u00ebrgatit n\u00eb heshtje p\u00ebr rrug\u00ebn e flijimit t\u00eb tij. N\u00eb mosh\u00ebn tridhjet\u00eb vje\u00e7are, n\u00eb nj\u00eb mij\u00eb e gjasht\u00ebqind e nj\u00ebzet e shtat\u00eb pas Krishtit, Athanasi mori form\u00ebn monastike n\u00ebn igumen Jozef, n\u00eb Manastirin e Shpirtit t\u00eb Shenjt\u00eb n\u00eb Vilno. Prej andej u d\u00ebrgua n\u00eb manastirin Kupiatsky dhe gjat\u00eb rrug\u00ebs takoi nj\u00eb invalid, t\u00eb cilin e ngriti mbi supe me dashuri. Ai i gjor\u00eb i m\u00ebsoi lutjen e pand\u00ebrprer\u00eb mend\u00ebrisht t\u00eb Krishtit, e cila u b\u00eb nj\u00eb trash\u00ebgimi shpirt\u00ebrore p\u00ebr shenjtorin. N\u00eb manastirin Kupiatski ruhej ikona e mrekullueshme e Hyjlind\u00ebs, e cila ishte shfaqur n\u00eb at\u00eb vend shum\u00eb vite m\u00eb par\u00eb. Ky imazh vulosi t\u00eb gjith\u00eb rrjedh\u00ebn e m\u00ebvonshme t\u00eb Shenjtit n\u00eb m\u00ebnyr\u00eb t\u00eb fsheht\u00eb dhe personale. Nj\u00eb her\u00eb ai d\u00ebgjoi nj\u00eb z\u00eb nga ikona, duke i k\u00ebrkuar t\u00eb shkonte n\u00eb Mosk\u00eb dhe t\u00eb k\u00ebrkonte ndihm\u00eb nga perandori i Rusis\u00eb. Athanasi iu bind me d\u00ebshir\u00eb dhe arriti at\u00eb q\u00eb i tregoi Hyjlind\u00ebse. Pas kthimit, me k\u00ebrkes\u00eb t\u00eb v\u00ebllez\u00ebrve, u shugurua murg n\u00eb vitin 1632. Pak m\u00eb von\u00eb ai u b\u00eb igumen i Manastirit t\u00eb Sh\u00ebn Simeonit n\u00eb Brest, p\u00ebr t\u00eb ngritur atje kryqin e nj\u00eb kishe t\u00eb t\u00ebr\u00eb t\u00eb p\u00ebrndjekur. Jeta e tij tani i p\u00ebrkiste besimtar\u00ebve t\u00eb vuajtur. N\u00eb vitin 1647, Osh\u00ebnar udh\u00ebtoi p\u00ebr n\u00eb Varshav\u00eb, tek Mbreti Wladys\u0142aw i Polonis\u00eb dhe arriti t\u00eb siguronte privilegje dhe liri p\u00ebr komunitetet orthodhokse t\u00eb Brestit. Megjithat\u00eb, autoritetet lokale refuzuan t\u00eb zbatonin vendimin mbret\u00ebror dhe k\u00ebrkuan q\u00eb t\u00eb gjith\u00eb t\u00eb bashkoheshin. Hierarkia m\u00eb e lart\u00eb orthodhokse e Varshav\u00ebs mbeti indiferente ndaj k\u00ebsaj \u00e7\u00ebshtjeje me pesh\u00eb. Teksa po lexonte nj\u00eb her\u00eb Himnin e Akathistos, d\u00ebgjoi nj\u00eb z\u00eb t\u00eb Hyjlind\u00ebs q\u00eb i k\u00ebrkonte t\u00eb kontrollonte Sht\u00ebpin\u00eb me ndihm\u00ebn e imazhit t\u00eb saj. M\u00eb pas ai u dha t\u00eb gjith\u00eb an\u00ebtar\u00ebve t\u00eb Parlamentit imazhe t\u00eb vogla t\u00eb Virgj\u00ebresh\u00ebs Mari, me fjal\u00eb paralajm\u00ebruese p\u00ebr nd\u00ebshkimin e Zotit. Ai foli me guxim para vet\u00eb mbretit n\u00eb favor t\u00eb besimit ortodoks. Pafytyr\u00ebsia e tij zem\u00ebroi hierark\u00ebt unitar\u00eb dhe sundimtar\u00ebt politik\u00eb. E quajt\u00ebn t\u00eb \u00e7mendur, e burgos\u00ebn, e rr\u00ebzuan si prift dhe e d\u00ebrguan n\u00eb gjyq te Mitropoliti i Kievit Petro Mogila. Ai hierark i ndritur e justifikoi dhe e quajti t\u00eb padrejt\u00eb vendimin e Varshav\u00ebs. Osh\u00ebnar u kthye n\u00eb manastirin e tij plot mir\u00ebnjohje ndaj Zotit. P\u00ebr dhjet\u00eb vjet t\u00eb t\u00ebra Sh\u00ebn jetoi mes njer\u00ebzve me q\u00ebndrim t\u00eb keq ndaj tij dhe luftoi pand\u00ebrprer\u00eb p\u00ebr Ortodoksin\u00eb. D\u00ebgjoi s\u00ebrish z\u00ebrin e Hyjlind\u00ebs q\u00eb i k\u00ebrkonte t\u00eb fliste s\u00ebrish para Kuvendit kund\u00ebr Unis\u00eb. Por ai nuk pati koh\u00eb t\u00eb mb\u00ebrrinte, sepse u arrestua dhe u transportua me hekura n\u00eb Varshav\u00eb. Ata e dyshuan padrejt\u00ebsisht p\u00ebr bashk\u00ebpunim me Mosk\u00ebn, pa gjetur asnj\u00eb prov\u00eb inkriminuese kund\u00ebr tij. Nga burgu ai i shkroi nj\u00eb let\u00ebr mbretit, duke kujtuar premtimin e tij t\u00eb vjet\u00ebr ndaj kish\u00ebs orthodhokse. Pas vdekjes s\u00eb Mitropolitit Pjetri Mogilas, Athanasi u kthye p\u00ebr pak koh\u00eb n\u00eb manastirin e tij me shpirtin plot paqe. M\u00eb 1 korrik 1648 erdh\u00ebn ushtar\u00eb dhe e arrestuan p\u00ebr her\u00eb t\u00eb tret\u00eb dhe t\u00eb fundit. Ata i than\u00eb se ai kishte l\u00ebn\u00eb m\u00ebnjan\u00eb Unin\u00eb e shenjt\u00eb dhe Osh\u00ebnar b\u00ebri kryqin dhe p\u00ebrs\u00ebriti fjal\u00ebt e tij. Ai u mbyll n\u00eb burgun e k\u00ebshtjell\u00ebs dhe m\u00eb pas u transferua n\u00eb burgun m\u00eb t\u00eb madh pas qytetit. Murgjit jezuit\u00eb e vizitonin vazhdimisht dhe i b\u00ebnin presion q\u00eb t\u00eb mohonte Ortodoksin\u00eb. P\u00ebrgjigja e tij mbeti e q\u00ebndrueshme dhe e patrazuar. Sh\u00ebn iu p\u00ebrgjigj jezuit\u00ebve se, sikurse ata i duan komoditetet e bot\u00ebs, ashtu edhe ai tani i p\u00eblqen t\u00eb vdes\u00eb p\u00ebr Ortodoksin\u00eb. Drejtori i burgjeve ua dha plot\u00ebsisht n\u00eb dor\u00eb, duke u th\u00ebn\u00eb t\u00eb b\u00ebnin me t\u00eb \u00e7far\u00eb t\u00eb donin. E \u00e7uan n\u00eb pyll dhe e torturuan me zjarr, duke u p\u00ebrpjekur t\u00eb lakojn\u00eb besimin e tij t\u00eb hekurt. Pastaj thirr\u00ebn nj\u00eb ushtar t\u00eb armatosur dhe p\u00ebrgatit\u00ebn grop\u00ebn pran\u00eb tij. P\u00ebr her\u00eb t\u00eb fundit iu k\u00ebrkua t\u00eb ndryshonte pik\u00ebpamjet e tij dhe ai u p\u00ebrgjigj se do t\u00eb vdiste me at\u00eb q\u00eb kishte th\u00ebn\u00eb m\u00eb par\u00eb. Ushtari q\u00eblloi, por Sh\u00ebn mbeti n\u00eb k\u00ebmb\u00eb, mb\u00ebshtetur n\u00eb pem\u00ebn pas tij. Pastaj vendos\u00ebn ta hidhnin n\u00eb grop\u00eb p\u00ebr t\u00eb p\u00ebrfunduar pun\u00ebn e tyre. Osh\u00ebnar ngriti syt\u00eb drejt qiellit, kryq\u00ebzoi krah\u00ebt mbi gjoks dhe ra ngadal\u00eb brenda i vet\u00ebm. I hodh\u00ebn dhe dhe r\u00ebr\u00eb sa ishte gjall\u00eb dhe k\u00ebshtu u gjet i shtrir\u00eb m\u00eb von\u00eb. At\u00eb nat\u00eb n\u00eb Brest murgjit dhe shum\u00eb besimtar\u00eb q\u00ebndruan zgjuar, sikur t\u00eb ndienin fshehurazi sakrific\u00ebn e babait t\u00eb tyre. Martirizimi i tij u b\u00eb nat\u00ebn e kat\u00ebrt deri n\u00eb pes\u00eb t\u00eb shtatorit, nj\u00eb mij\u00eb e gjasht\u00ebqind e dyzet e tet\u00eb. M\u00eb 1 maj murgjit gjet\u00ebn n\u00eb tok\u00eb trupin e shenjt\u00eb t\u00eb rr\u00ebfimtarit dhe martirit Athanasi. E mor\u00ebn nat\u00ebn me nderim dhe t\u00eb nes\u00ebrmen e varros\u00ebn n\u00eb Manastirin e Brestit duke k\u00ebnduar me lot. Trupi i shenjtorit mbeti i pakorruptuesh\u00ebm, duke u d\u00ebshmuar besimtar\u00ebve lavdin\u00eb me t\u00eb cil\u00ebn e nderoi Zoti. N\u00eb vitin 1888, p\u00ebr shkak t\u00eb nj\u00eb zjarri t\u00eb madh, relikti i shenjt\u00eb u dogj pothuajse plot\u00ebsisht brenda tempullit. Por nj\u00eb pjes\u00eb e saj u shp\u00ebtua nga zjarri dhe ruhet edhe sot e k\u00ebsaj dite n\u00eb kish\u00ebn e Sh\u00ebn Athanasit n\u00eb Brest. Jeta e tij u shkrua p\u00ebr her\u00eb t\u00eb par\u00eb n\u00eb shekullin e shtat\u00ebmb\u00ebdhjet\u00eb nga murgjit q\u00eb e dinin personalisht rrug\u00ebn e tij martire dhe lut\u00ebse. Mbledhja e faltoreve t\u00eb relikteve t\u00eb tij u b\u00eb m\u00eb nj\u00ebzet korrik t\u00eb nj\u00eb mij\u00eb e gjasht\u00ebqind e shtat\u00ebdhjet\u00eb e n\u00ebnt\u00eb. Kisha e nderon kujtimin e tij dy her\u00eb \u00e7do vit, m\u00eb nj\u00ebzet korrik dhe pes\u00eb shtator. Sh\u00ebn Athanasi ishte nj\u00eb rojtar pa gjum\u00eb i Ortodoksis\u00eb n\u00eb nj\u00eb epok\u00eb sprovash t\u00eb v\u00ebshtira dhe konvertimesh t\u00eb dhunshme. Jeta e tij tregon se besimi nuk p\u00ebrkulet as n\u00eb burg, as n\u00eb zjarr, as n\u00eb grop\u00eb.
