Ai ushtar, Mercurius, vinte nga nj\u00eb familje fisnike orthodhokse dhe i sh\u00ebrbeu princit t\u00eb Smolenskut me trim\u00ebri dhe besnik\u00ebri. Vargjet e Batu Khan arrit\u00ebn n\u00eb periferi t\u00eb qytetit n\u00eb vitin 1238, duke mbjell\u00eb zjarr dhe shkretim kudo. M\u00ebrkuri kishte ndjer\u00eb brenda vetes nj\u00eb parandjenj\u00eb t\u00eb mrekullueshme dhe e priste at\u00eb moment n\u00eb qet\u00ebsi dhe gatishm\u00ebri. Kur d\u00ebgjoi fjal\u00ebt e t\u00eb riut, u nis\u00ebn s\u00eb bashku pa vones\u00eb p\u00ebr n\u00eb tempullin metropolitane t\u00eb qytetit. Brenda tempullit ushtari u gjunj\u00ebzua dhe b\u00ebri pendim t\u00eb thell\u00eb para imazhit t\u00eb mrekulluesh\u00ebm t\u00eb Hyjlind\u00ebs. Me fjal\u00ebt &quot;Teotokos m\u00eb ndihmo&quot; ai u v\u00ebrsul kund\u00ebr kampit tatar n\u00eb err\u00ebsir\u00eb. Kund\u00ebrshtari i par\u00eb me t\u00eb cilin u p\u00ebrball ishte nj\u00eb gjigant q\u00eb mburrej me forc\u00ebn e tij dhe shum\u00eb luft\u00ebtar\u00eb t\u00eb tjer\u00eb e ndoq\u00ebn pas tij. Kur pushuan n\u00eb Zotin, s\u00eb pari u varros\u00ebn s\u00eb bashku n\u00eb t\u00eb nj\u00ebjtin varr, duke d\u00ebshmuar dashurin\u00eb dhe miq\u00ebsin\u00eb e tyre t\u00eb madhe.
