N\u00eb kulmin e rinis\u00eb s\u00eb tij, shk\u00eblqimi dhe guximi i tij t\u00ebrhoqi mbi t\u00eb zilin\u00eb e pushtuesve t\u00eb qytetit. Ai rridhte nga nj\u00eb familje e pasur Serres dhe jetoi n\u00eb gjysm\u00ebn e dyt\u00eb t\u00eb shekullit t\u00eb pes\u00ebmb\u00ebdhjet\u00eb pas Krishtit. F\u00ebmij\u00ebrin\u00eb e tij e kaloi n\u00eb nj\u00eb qytet q\u00eb kishte par\u00eb gjakun e mbretit dhe tre f\u00ebmij\u00ebve t\u00eb tij n\u00eb rrug\u00ebn mbret\u00ebrore. Urdhri i Muhamedit t\u00eb Dyt\u00eb e kishte sh\u00ebnuar shpirtin e Serrait me zi t\u00eb pashlyeshme. I riu Joani u rrit me kujtimin e k\u00ebsaj tragjedie, por nuk u strukur kurr\u00eb para t\u00eb fuqishm\u00ebve t\u00eb koh\u00ebs. Ai paraqitej n\u00eb vende publike si i barabart\u00eb me pushtuesit, me dinjitet dhe shk\u00eblqim n\u00eb pamjen e tij. Kjo sjellje e tij ngjalli urrejtje dhe xhelozi te turqit e rajonit, t\u00eb cil\u00ebt k\u00ebrkonin nj\u00eb m\u00ebnyr\u00eb p\u00ebr t&#x27;u hakmarr\u00eb ndaj tij. K\u00ebshtu ata e d\u00ebrguan at\u00eb tek autoritetet, duke pretenduar se ai kishte fyer publikisht besimin e profetit t\u00eb tyre. M\u00eb tej ata pohuan se ai i kishte premtuar se do ta ndiqte, por m\u00eb n\u00eb fund refuzoi me p\u00ebrbuzje. Pas nj\u00eb denoncimi kaq t\u00eb r\u00ebnd\u00eb, autoritetet urdh\u00ebruan menj\u00ebher\u00eb arrestimin e t\u00eb riut dhe sjelljen e tij n\u00eb gjykat\u00ebn e Serres. Magjistrat\u00ebt, duke par\u00eb bukurin\u00eb e tij dhe vrullin rinor, menduan fillimisht ta joshin me premtime. Ata i ofruan poste dhe nderime, duke shpresuar se shembulli i tij do t&#x27;i shtynte t\u00eb rinjt\u00eb e tjer\u00eb t\u00eb krishter\u00eb t\u00eb konvertoheshin. Megjithat\u00eb, Joanii iu p\u00ebrgjigj \u00e7do fjalie me z\u00eb t\u00eb fort\u00eb dhe rr\u00ebfeu publikisht besimin e tij n\u00eb Krishtin. Me gjith\u00eb dhimbjet e tmerrshme, martiri duroi dhe vazhdoi t\u00eb lavd\u00ebroj\u00eb me g\u00ebzim Zotin Jisu Krisht. Pik\u00ebrisht at\u00ebher\u00eb n\u00eb t\u00eb djatht\u00ebn e tij u shfaq nj\u00eb burr\u00eb madh\u00ebshtor me kal\u00eb, fytyra e t\u00eb cilit shk\u00eblqente si dielli. Joanii e kuptoi menj\u00ebher\u00eb se ishte Sh\u00ebn Theodori, ai q\u00eb po vinte p\u00ebr ta mb\u00ebshtetur. Kjo prani qiellore e nxiti t\u00eb mos e humbiste guximin dhe t\u00eb q\u00ebndronte i pal\u00ebkundur deri n\u00eb fund. Kur turqit pan\u00eb se as torturat nuk ia p\u00ebrkul\u00ebn shpirtin, e kthyen n\u00eb burg. Aty vazhduan presionet fizike dhe morale, por Joani i mbeti i p\u00ebrkushtuar besimit at\u00ebror. T\u00eb d\u00ebshp\u00ebruar nga q\u00ebndrueshm\u00ebria e tij, ata u detyruan t\u00eb k\u00ebrkonin udh\u00ebzime me shkrim nga Porta e Madhe p\u00ebr fatin e tij. Kur p\u00ebrgjigja mb\u00ebrriti nga Kostandinopoja, gjykat\u00ebsi urdh\u00ebroi vdekjen e tij n\u00ebse ai nuk e mohonte Krishtin. K\u00ebshtu e nxor\u00ebn nga burgu dhe e \u00e7uan n\u00eb nj\u00eb vend publik, p\u00ebr t&#x27;i dh\u00ebn\u00eb fund shembullit t\u00eb frik\u00ebs. Xhelat\u00ebt ngrit\u00ebn nj\u00eb grumbull me dru zjarri dhe dru t\u00eb that\u00eb dhe ngrit\u00ebn lart neod\u00ebshmor\u00ebt e lidhur. Ia lidh\u00ebn duart dhe k\u00ebmb\u00ebt dhe i vun\u00eb zjarrin substratit t\u00eb ndezsh\u00ebm, p\u00ebr ta b\u00ebr\u00eb m\u00eb t\u00eb dhimbshme torturimin e tij. K\u00ebshtu p\u00ebrfundoi jeta e tij tok\u00ebsore rreth nj\u00ebmij\u00eb e kat\u00ebrqind e tet\u00ebdhjet\u00eb pas Krishtit.
