Pran\u00eb tij, dymb\u00ebdhjet\u00eb murgj t\u00eb t\u00eb nj\u00ebjtit manastir u var\u00ebn si martir\u00eb, duke i q\u00ebndruar besnik\u00eb tradit\u00ebs orthodhokse deri n\u00eb frym\u00ebn e fundit. Historia na \u00e7on n\u00eb vitet e Michael Palaiologos, kur perandori i Kostandinopoj\u00ebs filloi negociatat me Pap\u00ebn p\u00ebr bashkimin e dy Kishave. Kushtet e d\u00ebrguara nga Papa Klementi IV e njihnin peshkopin e Rom\u00ebs si autoritet absolut mbi t\u00eb gjitha \u00e7\u00ebshtjet doktrinore. N\u00eb k\u00ebt\u00eb m\u00ebnyr\u00eb, autoriteti i Sinodit, Lokal dhe Ekumenik, praktikisht u anulua p\u00ebrball\u00eb sovranitetit papal. P\u00ebrpjekjet e hershme ngec\u00ebn p\u00ebr nj\u00ebfar\u00eb kohe, por negociatat rifilluan m\u00eb von\u00eb me nj\u00eb Pap\u00eb t\u00eb ri, Gregori i Dhjet\u00eb. Ai pranoi ta diskutonte \u00e7\u00ebshtjen n\u00eb nj\u00eb Sinod, i cili u caktua t\u00eb mblidhej n\u00eb qytetin francez t\u00eb Lionit. Perandori e pranoi menj\u00ebher\u00eb propozimin dhe premtoi t\u00eb d\u00ebrgonte p\u00ebrfaq\u00ebsues me kompetenca t\u00eb plota. Patriarku i at\u00ebhersh\u00ebm Jozef, megjithat\u00eb, rezistoi fuqish\u00ebm dhe deklaroi se ai kurr\u00eb nuk do t\u00eb n\u00ebnshkruante nj\u00eb bashkim t\u00eb till\u00eb. Ai pretendoi se, p\u00ebr shkak se ai e kishte marr\u00eb vet\u00eb Kostandinopoj\u00ebn nga Frank\u00ebt, ajo i p\u00ebrkiste atij si nj\u00eb pasuri personale. Madje, ai k\u00ebrkoi nga njer\u00ebzit q\u00eb t&#x27;i paguajn\u00eb qirat\u00eb p\u00ebr sht\u00ebpit\u00eb e tyre, di\u00e7ka e paprecedent\u00eb. Kjo k\u00ebrkes\u00eb dhe masat e dhunshme detyruan shum\u00eb banor\u00eb t\u00eb largohen nga qyteti dhe t\u00eb strehohen n\u00eb vende t\u00eb tjera. T\u00eb tjer\u00ebt u t\u00ebrhoq\u00ebn n\u00eb fshat dhe atje organizuan trupa t\u00eb armatosur kund\u00ebr tiranis\u00eb perandorake. Pavar\u00ebsisht kund\u00ebrshtimit, t\u00eb d\u00ebrguarit perandorak mb\u00ebrrit\u00ebn n\u00eb K\u00ebshillin e Lionit dhe n\u00ebnshkruan t\u00eb gjitha kushtet papnore pa hezitim. Ata pranuan shtimin e Kredos se Fryma e Shenjt\u00eb rrjedh gjithashtu nga Biri, duke falsifikuar k\u00ebshtu doktrin\u00ebn e lasht\u00eb. Ata njoh\u00ebn gjithashtu sovranitetin e Pap\u00ebs dhe t\u00eb drejt\u00ebn e tij p\u00ebr t&#x27;u p\u00ebrkujtuar nga Patriarku n\u00eb liturgji. Pas n\u00ebnshkrimit, Patriarku Jozef refuzoi t\u00eb bashk\u00ebpunonte me pseudosindikatat dhe menj\u00ebher\u00eb dor\u00ebzoi dor\u00ebheqjen nga froni. K\u00ebshtu, n\u00eb maj t\u00eb nj\u00eb mij\u00eb e dyqind e shtat\u00ebdhjet\u00eb e pes\u00eb, n\u00eb fronin patriarkal u ngjit Joani Vekkos, i cili deri at\u00ebher\u00eb kishte qen\u00eb Ark\u00ebtari i Kish\u00ebs s\u00eb Madhe. Populli, kleri dhe murgjit nuk pranuan me forc\u00eb k\u00ebt\u00eb bashkim, duke e cil\u00ebsuar si tradhti t\u00eb besimit. Atyre iu bashkuan an\u00ebtar\u00ebt e familjes perandorake, si motra e perandorit Eulogia dhe sundimtari i Epirit Nikifori. Fatkeq\u00ebsisht, presionet dhe shantazhet vazhduan me mjetet m\u00eb tiranike ndaj mbrojt\u00ebsve t\u00eb besimit ortodoks. N\u00eb k\u00ebt\u00eb betej\u00eb t\u00eb madhe shpirt\u00ebrore, Mali Athos nuk mbeti pa marr\u00eb pjes\u00eb, duke ngritur z\u00ebrin e rr\u00ebfimit. Manastiri i Vatopedit protestoi me guxim kund\u00ebr perandorit dhe Patriarkut, duke denoncuar hapur herezin\u00eb.
