Kur me d\u00ebshir\u00ebn e Per\u00ebndis\u00eb Tarasi u ngjit n\u00eb fronin patriarkal (784), Theofilakti u b\u00eb murg n\u00eb manastirin q\u00eb Tarasi kishte themeluar, n\u00eb gryk\u00ebn e Pont-Efksinit, s\u00eb bashku me sh\u00ebn Mihailin, episkopin e ardhsh\u00ebm t\u00eb Sinadh\u00ebs (23 maj). Dy v\u00ebllez\u00ebrit shpirt\u00ebror\u00eb nxitnin nj\u00ebri-tjetrin n\u00eb p\u00ebrpjekjet asketike, duke medituar p\u00ebr Fjal\u00ebn e Per\u00ebndis\u00eb dit\u00eb dhe nat\u00eb dhe duke flakur tutje t\u00eb gjitha k\u00ebnaq\u00ebsit\u00eb dhe d\u00ebshirat trupore.<\/p>\n<p>Nj\u00eb dit\u00eb vere, nd\u00ebrsa etja i kishte topitur, murgjit hap\u00ebn vet\u00eb cistern\u00ebn e manastirit dhe e lan\u00eb ujin t\u00eb derdhej n\u00eb tok\u00eb, pa pir\u00eb vet\u00eb asnj\u00eb pik\u00eb. I holluan trupat e tyre dhe hiri i Per\u00ebndis\u00eb banonte n\u00eb shpirtrat e tyre, duke rrezatuar edhe n\u00eb trupat e tyre, duke i b\u00ebr\u00eb t\u00eb dy dishepujt ikona t\u00eb gjalla t\u00eb virtytit. Ashtu si sh\u00ebn Vasili dikur n\u00eb Qesari, e ktheu gjith\u00eb Nikomedin\u00eb n\u00eb nj\u00eb qytet bamir\u00ebsie: nd\u00ebrtoi nj\u00eb godin\u00eb dy kat\u00ebshe me gjith\u00e7ka q\u00eb nevojitej p\u00ebr mir\u00ebpritjen dhe p\u00ebrkujdesjen p\u00ebr t\u00eb s\u00ebmur\u00ebt; organizoi nj\u00eb spital me doktor\u00eb dhe infermier\u00eb, brenda t\u00eb cilit kujdeseshin jo vet\u00ebm p\u00ebr sh\u00ebrimin e trupit, por edhe t\u00eb shpirtit dhe nd\u00ebrtoi nj\u00eb kish\u00eb pran\u00eb tij, kushtuar anargjend\u00ebve t\u00eb shenjt\u00eb, Kozma dhe Damian.<\/p>\n<p>Ishte at\u00eb i jetim\u00ebve, mbrojt\u00ebs i vejushave dhe drejtonte me dashuri grigj\u00ebn e tij shpirt\u00ebrore. Duke ndjekur shembullin e sh\u00ebn Tarasit, Theofilakti kishte nd\u00ebrmarr\u00eb hartimin e regjistrave me emrat e t\u00eb gjith\u00eb t\u00eb varf\u00ebrve t\u00eb qytetit, q\u00eb t\u2019u shp\u00ebrndante nj\u00eb l\u00ebmosh\u00eb mujore. \u00c7do jav\u00eb, pas agripnis\u00eb s\u00eb nat\u00ebs, ai iu ofronte t\u00eb s\u00ebmur\u00ebve t\u00eb spitalit banj\u00eb me uj\u00eb t\u00eb ngroht\u00eb dhe, pasi ngjishte mesin me nj\u00eb peshqir ashtu si Krishti, shkonte e u mjekonte plag\u00ebt.<\/p>\n<p>Sh\u00ebn Theofilakti drejtoi kish\u00ebn e tij n\u00eb paqe deri dit\u00ebn kur perandori i ri, Leoni V Armeni (813-820), nxiti nj\u00eb persekutim kund\u00ebr ikonave t\u00eb shenjta. N\u00eb gjith\u00eb perandorin\u00eb shkat\u00ebrroheshin ikonat dhe p\u00ebrndiqeshin murgjit, duke u b\u00ebr\u00eb tortura t\u00eb tmerrshme.<\/p>\n<p>N\u00eb vitin 815, patriarku i shenjt\u00eb, Niqifori (2 qershor), mblodhi n\u00eb kryeqytet nj\u00eb grumbull murgjish, igumen\u00ebsh dhe episkop\u00ebsh orthodhoks\u00eb, nd\u00ebrmjet t\u00eb cil\u00ebve ishin sh\u00ebn Efthimi i Sard\u00ebs (26 dhjetor), sh\u00ebn Emiliani i Kizik\u00ebs (8 gusht), sh\u00ebn Josifi i Selanikut (14 korrik), Evdhoksi i Amorit, Mihaili i Sinadh\u00ebs dhe Theofilakti. Pa iu trembur t\u00ebrbimit t\u00eb perandorit, ata dol\u00ebn para tij t\u00eb bashkuar me an\u00eb t\u00eb besimit t\u00eb patundur dhe i shpjeguan vler\u00ebn e nderimit t\u00eb ikonave t\u00eb shenjta. P\u00ebrpjekjet e tyre iu kund\u00ebrvun\u00eb vullnetit t\u00eb keq t\u00eb perandorit dhe t\u00eb teolog\u00ebve t\u00eb oborrit. Kur d\u00ebgjoi argumentet e tyre, Leoni u inatos dhe urdh\u00ebroi t\u2019i internonin n\u00eb vende t\u00eb ndryshme.<\/p>\n<p>Sh\u00ebn Theofilaktin, pasi i rrojt\u00ebn mjekr\u00ebn dhe e rrah\u00ebn n\u00eb m\u00ebnyr\u00eb barbare, e d\u00ebrguan n\u00eb k\u00ebshtjell\u00ebn e Strovilos, n\u00eb tem\u00ebn e Sibiriot\u00ebve. Ai q\u00ebndroi atje p\u00ebr afro 30 vjet, pa mundur t\u00eb p\u00ebrfitonte nga amnistia q\u00eb shpalli perandori Mihaili II, kur erdhi n\u00eb pushtet n\u00eb vitin 820. Shenjtori duroi me qet\u00ebsi \u00e7do lloj keqtrajtimi, duke vazhduar t\u00eb kujdesej nga larg p\u00ebr Kish\u00ebn e tij. Sistematik n\u00eb lutjet e gjata t\u00eb nat\u00ebs p\u00ebr shp\u00ebtimin e popullit dhe p\u00ebrforcimin e Orthodhoksis\u00eb, ai pati nj\u00eb korrespondenc\u00eb t\u00eb gjer\u00eb, ku nxiste disa njer\u00ebz q\u00eb t\u00eb refuzonin t\u00eb mirat materiale dhe nderet e kota q\u00eb u b\u00ebnin ikonoklast\u00ebt dhe t\u00eb ktheheshin n\u00eb besimin e v\u00ebrtet\u00eb dhe t\u00eb merrnin kryqin dhe inkurajonte t\u00eb tjer\u00ebt t\u00eb q\u00ebndronin besnik\u00eb deri n\u00eb vdekje gjat\u00eb d\u00ebshmis\u00eb s\u00eb tyre.<\/p>\n<p>N\u00eb nj\u00eb nga letrat e tij, sh\u00ebn Theodhor Studiti e quan at\u00eb: \u201cKolona e s\u00eb v\u00ebrtet\u00ebs, themeli i Orthodhoksis\u00eb, mbrojt\u00ebsi i besimit dhe mb\u00ebshtetja e Kish\u00ebs\u201d. Pavar\u00ebsisht nga gjendja e tij e v\u00ebshtir\u00eb n\u00eb m\u00ebrgim, Theofilakti m\u00ebsonte p\u00ebr nevojat e t\u00eb varf\u00ebrve dhe t\u00eb t\u00eb vuajturve, me q\u00ebllim q\u00eb t\u2019i ndihmonte. Kushdo q\u00eb i afrohej p\u00ebr t\u00eb shijuar mjaltin e fjal\u00ebve t\u00eb tij, largohej i shnd\u00ebrruar, duke harruar hidh\u00ebrimin q\u00eb kishte dhe fal\u00ebnderonte Per\u00ebndin\u00eb.<\/p>\n<p>Duke i shtuar martirizimit t\u00eb tij pa gjak, pra atij t\u00eb pohimit t\u00eb besimit, edhe nj\u00eb s\u00ebmundje t\u00eb gjat\u00eb q\u00eb duroi pa u ankuar, sh\u00ebn Theofilakti e dor\u00ebzoi shpirtin e tij n\u00eb duart e Per\u00ebndis\u00eb rreth vitit 840. Kur perandoresha e devotshme, Theodhora, nd\u00ebrmori rivendosjen e Orthodhoksis\u00eb dhe thirri nga internimi rr\u00ebfyesit e Besimit Orthodhoks (843), patriarku i shenjt\u00eb, Metodi, e \u00e7oi lipsanin e sh\u00ebn Theofilaktit n\u00eb Nikomedi dhe e vendosi n\u00eb kish\u00ebn e Shenjtor\u00ebve Kozma dhe
