{"id":27743,"date":"2020-11-14T16:42:00","date_gmt":"2020-11-14T15:42:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/orthodoxalbania.org\/2020\/?p=27743"},"modified":"2026-05-21T22:20:23","modified_gmt":"2026-05-21T20:20:23","slug":"nativity-lent-begins","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/orthodoxalbania.org\/2026\/en\/2020\/11\/14\/nativity-lent-begins\/","title":{"rendered":"Nativity Lent Begins"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Nativity Lent Begins<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\nFor all the orthodox faithful, the fifteenth of November is the day when the faithful begin the Nativity Lent which is a time of preparation for the big and significant event of Christmas. This is one of the Lenten times that Church has determined in the calendar in order to help the faithful to properly prepare themselves for a big church feast.<\/p>\n<p>The Nativity Lent is a joyous time like the event of Nativity of Christ itself, which we celebrate on 25 December and which brings lots of joy (Mt 2:10). During this time, we not only fast but also experience the whole hymnology of the season in order to experience the big joy of the coming of our Lord on Earth.<\/p>\n<p>When we fast, we link the physical domain of our body with the spiritual one through worshiping our living God. By limiting ourselves to certain foods and sins also, we help our whole being, both our body and spirit to get closer to God and to worship Him.<\/p>\n<p>A church celebration is not a simple presentation of a series of past events, but an experience of those events into our present. For example, during Lent, we get ready to accept our Savior Jesus Christ who will be born in a manger. Lent is biblical. It is determined by Christ Himself, who also exercised fasting while staying for forty days in the desert, before starting his holy work on earth and getting baptized (Mt 4:1-11). Fasting is not a product of our imagination but it is a way for the man to cleanse his soul and to make a sacrifice for God. Fasting is also mentioned in the Old Testament.<\/p>\n<p>This tradition was followed by our Lord who experienced fasting while living on Earth, as we mentioned above. In the same way, we prepare ourselves to welcome God through a forty days Lent. During this Lent we try not to consume meat, eggs and dairy products like milk, cheese, butter etc. Simultaneously, we try to reflect on ourselves and about our life in order that our fasting becomes not a diet but an exercise for a deeper self-examination that leads towards repentance for our fallen nature.<\/p>\n<p>Fasting is a means and not a goal in itself. It helps us to achieve our spiritual growth. During this time, the faithful wish each other a Happy and Blessed Lent. Let us try to build up a manger within our hearts for the Christ, our Savior, to be born. Let us pray to our Lord with the words that we mention in the Communion Service\u201c\u2026And as You consented to lie in a cave and in a manger of irrational beasts, so also consent to lie in the manger of my irrational soul and to enter my defiled body. \u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Have a blessed Lent everybody<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Remember<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">* During Lent, we do not consume meat, eggs or dairy products.<br \/>\n* Fish, sea food, vegetables, oil and fruits can be consumed.<br \/>\n* Fish can be consumed until 17 December.
