In these days following the inauguration of my ministry as Bishop of Rome and Successor of Peter, I write to express my heartfelt gratitude for your fraternal closeness and the affection manifested through the presence of your distinguished delegation at the solemn liturgy in the Vatican on Sunday, 18 May last. I was deeply moved by this gesture, which was a profound sign of Christian brotherhood and unity of faith.<\/p>\n
As a fellow servant in the Lord’s vineyard, I kindly ask for the continuing support of your prayers, that Almighty God may strengthen me in service to him and his holy people. As we listen together to what the Holy Spirit is saying to the churches (cf. Rev. 2:7), let us renew our commitment to fostering unity among all Christians, in obedience to the will of the Lord Jesus (cf. Jn 17:21), and thereby more effectively work together for reconciliation and concord in our divided world.<\/p>\n
