\ngrace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus ChrisF
\n(Rom 1:7)
\nAs we celebrate the fulfilment of the gospel which God had
\npromised beforehand through his prophets in the holy Scriptures, we are
\nfilled with grace and peace: his Son, who was descended from David
\naccording to the flesh and designated Son of God in power, according to the
\nSpirit of holiness by his resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord
\n(cf. ibid 1:1-4), has come into this world.
\nEnlightened by the hope which surrounds the Infant of Bethlehem,
\nwe catch a glimpse – already in the gift and mystery of his being born
\namong us – of the Risen One, the One who conquers death! United in this
\njoyous truth, we regain confidence, and hope fills our hearts: if God is with
\nus, who can be against us?<\/p>\n
The love which God has made known to us incites us to work
\npatiently and tirelessly for our communion. The past year, marked among
\nother things by the Fortieth Anniversary of the Second Vatican Council\u2019s
\nDecree Unitatis redintegratio, has been a fruitful time on the path towards
\ncommunion. Different events have confirmed our efforts to build the unity
\nbetween Christians and to witness to the world the peace and concord
\nwhich already exists between us. Dear Brother, with you I give thanks to
\nthe Lord for all that he has permitted us to accomplish in order to reduce
\nthe sorrowful distance which still separates us, and I join you in praying
\nthat the desire for communion will continue to be upheld as an irrevocable
\ncommitment.
\nWith these sentiments and with profound gratitude for your
\nChristmas message, I assure you of my faithful and fraternal affection in
\nthe Lord.
