    Following past tradition, the beginning of the new school year 2007-2008, was begun by the blessing of the schools with Holy Water. The experience gained through the years and the excellent level of teaching prepares the future generations of students. The beautiful environment of the schools and the quality of the teaching materials, and the excellent staff, all contribute to bring the students to the highest level of education available in Albania. These schools serve, in fact, as the \u2018fertile ground\u2019 for the spiritual and the moral resurrection of our society.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

    In its sixth year, the Albanian-American school, \u201cThe Protagonist\u201d, is well along in terms of being established.  According to the assistant director of the school, Mrs. Tatiana Dodbiba, there are eleven classes this year with 172 pupils and 24 instructors who are all specialized in their fields.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

    The surroundings of the school are beautiful and the children happy. Ms. Irena, a teacher, told us the beginning of this year was significant because \u201cWe have built a good relationship between the staff and the students.\u201d Also, the school is well equipped with the necessary textbooks, workbooks and teaching supplies and equipment.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/td>\n

    The Greek-Albanian school \u201cSpirit of Love\u201d in Durr\u00ebs, has started its third year. Ms. Elsa, one of its teachers, said \u201cThe new school year has begun well. Lessons were underway on the very first day of school after a festive program welcoming the students\u201d. The classrooms are well furnished, and the pupils have been provided with the necessary textbooks.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

    The children of the Home of Hope also shared the joy of the beginning of the new school year, too. Of the 30 children who live in the home, 11 are attending classes at the \u201cSpirit of Love\u201d school. They also have tutorial assistance from the staff of the Home, which totals 17 employees. His Beatitude, Archbishop Anastasios has given special consideration for their expenses relating to school.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/td>\n

    With God\u2019s blessings, a new school year started in the Metropolis of Gjirokast\u00ebr. The blessing with Holy Water took place in the school yard of the Ecclesiastical High School\u201cHoly Cross\u201d and was performed by Metropolitan Dimitri with the assistance of Archimandrite Nathaniel and the holy monk Seraphim.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

    Others who took part in the ceremony were the Prefect of Gjirokast\u00ebr, Mr. Spiro Ksera, the principal of local education, Mr. Vasil Muka, the head of Omonia, Mr. Jani Jani and many other distinguished guests from Gjirokast\u00ebr. There were 62 pupils, their teachers and other guests from the areas surrounding the Metropolis. The delightful voices of kinder gardeners, who had come from the area belonging to the church, filled the atmosphere with joy and anticipation.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/td>\n

    Our church in Gjirokast\u00ebr opened its third kindergarten facility, in Granic\u00eb, because of so many requests by parents in the area. In his welcoming address, His Grace Dimitrios claimed \u201cAll this could not have been achieved without the efforts and sacrifices made by our Archbishop Anastasios. He demonstrates his love for the children by providing these facilities and all the material needed for the school.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

    In His Grace\u2019s opinion, \u201cYou [the youth] can make our church progress within societies in every corner of the world. You should strive to be first in your classes, in your moral values and in your motivation for your school work. Your attitude should always bring honor to the name of our school.\u201d \u201cBeing free to think, makes us enjoy the biggest freedom in our life,\u201d said his Grace.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/td>\n

    The Ecclesiastical High school\u201cHoly Cross\u201d has a 10 year history in preparing new staff for the church, and for some who will continue their studies either at the Theological Academy\u201cResurrection of Christ\u201d in St. Vlasios, Durr\u00ebs or at other universities here or abroad. Along with the subjects which have been approved by the Ministry of Education, there are religious courses, which contribute to the spiritual life of the students. There are 16 students attending classes this year. The majority are from the southern regions of the country such as Gjirokast\u00ebr, Sarand\u00eb, P\u00ebrmet and Tepelen\u00eb. They all became first year students of the school, joining the 12 other second year students, 19 third year students and 15 graduates from last year. The sixty-two students of \u201cHoly Cross\u201d receive a yearly scholarship grant from His Beatitude Archbishop Anastasios.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
    In addition, the school of Mesopotamiin Saranda opened its doors for its second year. There are 104 pupils studying in the following majors: computer sciences, plumber services, electric services and refrigeration installation. In a conversation that we had with the principal of the school, Mr. Orfea Beci, we learned there have been a lot of applicants this year, but the number of students who were accepted was small. Technical and ecclesiastical education in the Metropolis of Gjirokast\u00ebr has progressed through the years serving as a sort of \u201cgreenhouse\u201d for the future of our church and society in general.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
    For the first time this year, a branch of the Ecclesiastical High School\u201cHoly Cross\u201d was opened also in Sukth, Durres. There are 22 students in the first year and 15 students in the second year. The faculty and administrative staff of this school are well qualified and contribute to the educational and spiritual upbringing of the young students. Among the lovely surroundings the school provides a modern dormitory with excellent facilities for the students to live there.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

    The careful planning for the education of the youth of the Orthodox Church that has been established, supported, and blessed by His Beatitude Archbishop Anastasios, demonstrates the church\u2019s desire to give the next generation the best possible opportunity to acquire knowledge, cultural values and spiritual growth which will make a positive contribution to the future of our country.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
