ANNOUNCEMENT – ORTHODOX AUTOCEPHALOUS CHURCH OF ALBANIA HOLY SYNOD
The Holy Synod of the Orthodox Autocephalous Church of Albania, during its extraordinary session today, January 25, 2025, at 11:30 a.m., expressed its deepest sorrow for the repose in the Lord of the late Archbishop of Tirana, Durrës, and All Albania, Anastasios of blessed memory, and resolved the following:
- To elect His Eminence Metropolitan John of Korça as the Locum Tenens of the Archdiocesan Throne.
- To declare a five-day ecclesiastical mourning period, from January 25 th to January 29 th , 2025.
- To receive the body of the late Archbishop in front of the Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ in Tirana on Tuesday, January 28 th , at 4:00 p.m., after which he will be placed for public veneration inside the Cathedral throughout the night until the next day, Wednesday, January 29 th , 2025.
- To hold the funeral service on Thursday, January 30 th , at 11:00 a.m., following the Divine Liturgy.
At the conclusion of the session, the Holy Synod offered a memorial prayer and called upon all the faithful to unite in prayer for the repose of the soul of our blessed Father and Shepherd, Archbishop Anastasios, who served as Archbishop for thirty-two years.
