The feast of the Elevation of the Cross was splendidly celebrated this year on September 14th throughout our country. Such an event recalls the finding of the Cross of our Lord Jesus Christ by St. Elena, the mother of Constantine the Emperor in the fourth century. Then the Holy Cross was taken at the beginning of the 7th century by the Persians who invaded Jerusalem. But the Byzantine Emperor Heraclius regained it, and the Cross was magnificently elevated in the Resurrection Church in Jerusalem. Today, such a significant event for the Orthodoxy is celebrated in all the Orthodox Churches.
On the occasion of this celebration, in the Resurrection of Christ Cathedral in Tirana, a Pan-Orthodox Liturgy was celebrated by the Archbishop of Tirana, Durrës and All Albania, His Beatitude Anastasios, together with the Metropolitan of Amantias, His Grace Nathanail and the clergy of the Archiepiscopate.
Towards the end, Archimandrite Kozma Prifti spoke about the history and the importance of this celebration. In the end, all the faithful venerated the cross and took basil branches to their homes.
