A Discussion about the Work of the Holy and Great Synod
On the last Thursday of September, as has become tradition, another meeting of the League of Orthodox Intellectuals was held on the premises of the Cultural Center of The Resurrection of Christ Cathedral in Tirana. The meeting opened with the greeting of prof. Dr. Robert Andoni, the President of the Association. Afterwards the participants listened to several hymns chanted by The Joan Kukuzeli Byzantine Choir.
The main topic was presented by Archbishop Anastasios, who spoke to the participants about the work and the special role of the Holy and Great Synod. His Beatitude stressed the great importance of this extraordinary event for the Orthodox world, noting the fact that it was the first pan-orthodox meeting after many centuries. The Holy and Great Synod was a clear evidence of the unity of the Orthodox Church, which is the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church, united in the sacrament of Divine Eucharist.
Also, the Archbishop spoke about the significance of the message that the Orthodox world gives nowadays to the Christian World and to those of a different religions. He highlighted that the Orthodox Church is not an isolated group of chosen people, but it is open to everyone regardless of their faith or origin. This was evident also in the Message of the Holy and Great Synod (whose drafting, as required by the Synod, was made by Archbishop Anastasios). Finally, His Eminence Andon, Metropolitan of Elbasan spoke about the contribution of His Beatitude Archbishop Anastasios.
In the upcoming meeting next month, the participants will delve deeper into this topic by raising questions and engaging in discussions focused on this important topic.
