On Wednesday, October 13th, an “Iconographic Exhibition,” with icons found and authenticated to be from Albania during the XIV-XX centuries opened at the Gallery of Arts in Tirana. In conjunction with the 100th anniversary of Albanian Independence, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Albania, with the cooperation of the Historical Museums of Berat and Korça, supported fully this “XIV to XX Century Iconographic Exhibit”.
His Beatitude Anastasios Archbishop of Tirana, Durrës and All Albania was present, as well as Archimandrite Justin Anthimiadhi, Archimandrite Cosmas, Deacon Anastas Bendo, and intellectuals and youth activists close to Orthodox Autocephalous Church of Albania. The exhibition was opened by the Director of GKA, Mr. Rubens Shima. The Minister of Culture, Mr. Aldo Bumçi, in his speech to the participants among other things emphasized: “Icons are a wonderful heritage, a great asset, which we use to introduce the values of Albania in exhibitions that are currently open in Rome and in Moscow.”
The Minister of Culture Mr. Bumçi, also thanked the representatives of the Orthodox Church whom, together with, but also independent of the Ministry have helped in the restoration of ancient churches and icons. He expressed his gratitude to Archbishop Anastasios for this dynamic activity and great assistance. The XIV to XX century Iconographic Exhibition will remain open at GKA until the date of November 29th.
