On 4 June, in the village Shijon of  Elbasan, the memory of St. John Vladimir was celebrated in the holy Monastery that is named after this saint. A large number of Orthodox believers from different districts of Albania, participated in this festival, as well as foreign believers (a group of students from the U.S. led by Luke Veronis) and another group of Orthodox believers from Montenegro, Cërna Gores). As every year, the students of the Theological Academy “Resurrection of Christ”, directed by His Grace, Bishop Nicholas, were present and also had the responsibility of organizing this festival. This feast was also attended by various groups from Tirana, organized by the Student Center, Youth Office, and Women’s Office, as well as believers from surrounding towns and villages.
The services began on the evening of June 3, led by His Eminence, Bishop of Kruja, Anthony. Father Luke Veronis gave the sermon of the day, emphasizing that one of the virtues of Saint John Vladimir was wisdom. The Vigil lasted until the early morning hours. At the end of Divine Liturgy, as is the tradition, the Litany and Procession going around the Monastery with the relics of the saint took place. At the completion of the great Litany, the believers were given the icon of the saint, and their prayers continued throughout the day, seeking the saint’s interventions to our God. This Feast was also a festive day for the municipality, which has declared June 4 as a Feast for the entire area.
