Under the care of the Prime Minister of Albania, Prof. Dr. Sali Berisha, on the 4th of May 2010, h 11:00, in the building of the Central State Archive will be inaugurated the exhibition “Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Manuscripts in Albania”. The exhibition is organized by the:

The goal of this exhibition is to inform scholars and the general public with a part of the documentary heritage and the rich Christian cultural tradition in our country, more concretely with the history and tradition of the byzantine and post-byzantine manuscripts, created, cultivated and carried throughout the centuries from the orthodox Christians and today housed in Central State Archive. Among the 46 codices, covering a historical period starting from the 6th to the 18th century, will also be exposed the two well known codices, Beratinus Purpureus 1 and Beratinus Purpureus 2, part of the World Memory Register of UNESCO.

An exhibition of this nature and of this size is organized for the first time in Albania, aiming to bring the general public closer to the cultural and historical treasures of the country.
A wider view of these manuscripts will be brought through 28 photographical panels that will give further information about the content of the codices. These panels will contain 54 codices, including those exposed in original.
The visitors will be introduced to the exhibition through a catalogue of the exhibition, a guide-book and informing leaflets. The scientific responsibility is carried through by Mr. Agamemnon Tselikas, philologist/paleographer, head of the Historical and Paleographical Archive of the National Bank of Greece Cultural Foundation.
