50 years after the meeting between the Ecumenical Patriarch Athenagoras and Pope Paul VI, their predecessors, the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and Pope Francis, met on Sunday afternoon, May 25, in the city of Jerusalem, where the Lord Jesus Christ was crucified and resurrected.

Initially a private meeting took place between the two Christian leaders, who exchanged gifts for the occasion and signed a joint 10 point-statement. Then they met again at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre of Christ, and with all the Christian leaders of the Holy Land, prayed at the Tomb of Christ.
